Relateable, yes!! I keep a list of books lent out and books I’ve borrowed, which really helps. But that is not a perfect system if I don’t update it regularly!
I feel like the odd one out to admit that I am the one in the getaway car with borrowed books that sit tauntingly on my shelf as I do not read them week after week, month after month, but not being able to bear returning them without being able to answer the question "Did you enjoy it?"
My story is about your story, Karen. After loaning “The Minister’s Wife” to a number of friends (always returned within weeks), I loaned it to a new neighbour (also, a minister’s wife). After a long seven months, I finally mustered up the courage to ask if she had finished with the book. It was at my door the same night.
I use the BookBuddy: My Library Manager to manage my library. You can enter books by using the in-built scanner to scan the ISBN number. Feature date of loan, etc

A list is a good idea.

Tis better to return unread than to not return at all....
Your piece reminded me of books I have lent out that I haven’t seen come back…
Maybe you can get some of them back! It all depends on remembering who has them though….
Ah, yes… about that… not so sure anymore…
So relatable! And also, mining for ideas of the speech I will start giving when lending a book… 😏
You may use my grilling approach…
I need a third poll option: I’m just as likely to forget I loaned it out. “I thought I had that book. Oh well, I’ll buy another copy.”
Yes, that is another thing that can happen for sure!

That's funny Marianne. Make them buy the book! ;)
I know exactly who has my book #5 from a series…since fifth grade. Yup, forgive but not forget! 🤣
That's my style too! ha ha ha
Karen, you are so honest and funny and lovable I just might need to write a book about you someday. But if I lend it to you, will you give it back?
I will. I really and truly will!
